  • Ignite a Spark – Start by ensuring that kids have interest in the subject

We make the students aware of the beautiful legacy of Vedic Maths. It is such a vast and deep subject that most students are amazed when they come to know that Vedic Maths can solve questions in any Maths topic be it Trigonometry, Calculus and Geometry also. When a child is curious about the subject, he will be better involved leading to much better results.

  • Strategize – Focus on accuracy (not speed)

Remember that it’s important to build a solid foundation first. Just like an infant has to first learn to walk, or else he will fall if he tries to run straightaway. Similarly, the right approach especially in Vedic maths for beginnersprogram is to understand the concepts first, and practice it to an extent that you achieve 100% accuracy. And then focus on the next goal of improving the speed.

  • Speed

Most students join Vedic Maths for faster speed (and not accuracy). Even though we all realize that speed will not be of any use if a student lacks accuracy. Nevertheless, it is a universally well-known fact that Vedic Maths improves your speed at least 5x times as compared to the traditional way of solving Maths problems.

Let us look at a simple trick – Square any given number that ends with 5

Example – Find the square of 45

  • Step 1– Multiple the number at tens digit (4) by its successor number (which is 5 in this case). So 4 x 5 = 20
  • Step 2– Append 25 to the result in previous step
  • The answer is 20_25

Now that you know how simple it is to find a square of any number ending with 5, try the second question yourself to find the square of 75, using the above Vedic Maths trick and note down the time taken. It should be under 1 second and then solve the square of 75 using steps taught in traditional school maths which is as follows:

   75

x 75

———

375

525(0)

———

= 5625

———

Measure the time taken, it will easily be anywhere b/w 4-6 seconds, or more. Let us know your findings by commenting in the comments section. Our course ‘Vedic maths for beginnershas a collection of many such easy and interesting tricks which ensures to generate interest in the students at an early stage.

  • Be Patient. Set the expectation right with students

Remember that there is no Magic Mantra. Patienceholds the key, followed by regular practice as explained above.

  • Practice correctly, not for the sake of formality

In our initial days, we noticed a strange observation that even though some kids regularly completed homework and practiced the tricks, they could not gain accuracy or fluency in class. When we did a deep dive and understood the homework pattern from their parents, we found that most of those kids completed the homework at the last moment. This is when we realized that instead of last moment rush, it is important to daily practice (even if for a lesser time) to ensure that the concepts are registered in the brain effectively. So, the secret of effective practice is not to practice for 60 minutes in one day, rather practicing 10 minutes for 6 days will be at least 10 times more fruitful.
